2013 promises to be an exciting year full of new opportunities for all Real Estate Agents. In the past several years, working hard in Real Estate didn’t necessarily guarantee a high income level. It takes three ingredients for you to achieve great success:
- Hard Work
- Great Strategies
- Good Timing
If you’ve been making the effort with minimal results, and you’ve employed good strategies, the only thing missing may have been timing. It’s been said that “Timing is Everything“. If that’s the case, then the coming year should provide the perfect opportunity to have one of the best years in Real Estate.
If the timing is perfect, why is it that so few agents have put together a strong Business Plan in place. The answer may lie in each person’s Fear of Failure. (Fear of loss, is far greater than the ecstasy from gain). In other words, people will avoid seeking pleasure because they fear the pain more. If a certain income level is set as a goal and is not achieved, then that agent has failed, and we all know failure hurts, but not near as much as failing because you never “Took the shots”.
The solution to the above conundrum lies in how you perceive your performance. “Nothing has any meaning but the meaning you give it”. So, why not change the meaning attached to your performance towards achieving your goals. Instead of looking for perfection in the achievement of any goal, why not focus on whether or not you’ve made progress towards achieving that goal. For example, if your goal is to earn $100,000.00 or $1 million in 2013, and you fall short of that goal, why not compare your performance this year with your performance in the prior year. Your satisfaction and pleasure should be derived from your progress towards achieving the goal. This is consistent with the cliché, “It’s not the destination, it’s the journey”. It should absolutely apply to your goals.
If you demand perfection of your efforts, you will always be disappointed and even worse, unhappy. The best way to alleviate most stress and achieve true happiness in life is to ask yourself, “Am I moving closer towards achieving my goals?” If the answer is yes, then celebrate and continue on with your journey.
